The North American Auto Show, held in Detroit at the beginning of every year, is known for showcasing glamorous, luxurious models and the coolest new concepts. It's also known for giving out the "Best in Show" award, as determined by Autoweek

This year, the award went to the humble and reliable Ford Fusion, specifically, the new 2013 Ford Fusion model. Last year's award went to the Porsche 918 RSR.

So how did a non-luxury car rise above the pack? As Autoweek editor Wes Raynal explains, "It's very rare for a mid-size sedan to win Best in Show.
