The Ford Taurus has always been a popular part of the Ford lineup, especially for individuals and families looking for a vehicle with great value and unmatched reliability. The Taurus was originally introduced in 1986 and has stayed in almost-continuous production for more than 20 years. This makes the Taurus the fourth oldest Ford model available in its lineup.
The first 1986 Ford Taurus was innovative in its design and features, and between 1992-1996, it had the honor of being the best-selling North American vehicle. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Taurus sales declined a bit, as Ford began to focus more of its energy on SUV sales, like the Ford Explorer. In 2006, the Taurus was discontinued, with 2007 being its last model year.
The good news about Taurus? It came back! The name lived on a few short months after the 2007 models came out by replacing the intended Ford Five Hundred sedan and Ford Freestyle hatchback, which were named the 2008 Taurus and 2008 Taurus X instead. A new Ford Taurus model was then released in 2010.
