2012 Ford B-Max: Innovative New Minivan Doors Unveiled

Ford has been teasing us with its Ford B-Max concept for quite some time. It was originally supposed to roll off Romanian production lines sometime at the end of last year, but it seems that drivers will have to wait a bit longer. However, it seems like Ford is really putting some thought into the vehicle, so we here at Pearson Ford, located at 10650 North Michigan Road Zionsville, IN 46077, are happy to stay patient.

Ford recently released a photo and details concerning the new vehicle's doors. It will feature sliding doors, but the usual door pillar will be absent. This will allow for much easier loading of people and cargo. The new door "gap" is a wide 1.5- meters long. The statement "Mind the Gap" seems to apply here.

Stefan Lamm, Exterior Design Director for Ford of Europe explains the impact of these doors, stating, "Door systems like this have been a designer's dream for many years. We have taken the concept from an idea on a designer's sketch pad, to a stylish and versatile product on the showroom floor." Darren Palmer, Product Development Quality Director for Ford Europe adds, "We engineered the body to keep all the benefits of the new door concept, while making the structure strong, stiff and light . . . Creating a strong, stable body is great for handling. The B-MAX is just as stiff as the latest Fiesta, and will be just as fun to drive too."1 The new B-Max will have its official reveal in March at the Geneva International Auto Salon.

Time will tell if Ford actually exports the B-Max to North America, so stay tuned here with Pearson Ford for more information as it becomes available.
