Top Safety Picks for 2011: The Ford F-150

Yes, the large Ford F-150 pickup truck earned the highest possible ratings in the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety's (IIHS') perennial front-, side-, and rear-crash evaluations. With it's electronic stability control as a standard safety feature, it may not have have earned a 2011 TOP SAFETY PICK title.
Perhaps, more impressive, though is that the Ford F-150 is one of only two large pickup trucks to earn a top "Good" rating in the IIHS' newly instated roof-strength. The roof-strength test measures the total force a vehicle's roof can withstand before its integrity is compromised. Vehicle's whose roof can withstand a force more than four times the auto's overall weight receive a "Good" rating. Test results show the Ford F-150 (specifically models made after February 2011) can withstand a force 4.7 times its weight. This is the highest possible roof-strength rating awarded a vehicle within the large pickup truck category, to date.
