While Mel Gibson may have starred in the original Mad Max, in 1979, we all know who the real star of the film was. That's right, it was Max's 1973 Ford XB Falcon GT351 that stole the show. Now, 32 years and two sequels later, a fourth Mad Max film is being planned. And, of course, all of us here at Pearson Ford are left to question who the star of the film will be this time?
That said, Ford is working quite diligently to ensure that they land the role of a life time in this film. In fact, they have gone as far as to debut two new Ford Interceptor concept models at the Australian International Motor Show, held n Melbourne. Aside from that, the American automaker is also teaming up with Top Gear Australia and inviting Australian fans to vote on which Interceptor they would most like to see tearing up the streets in the new film.
Of course, Ford is doing this all with the hopes of being picked to play the part of Max's ride in the new movie, which is going into production very soon. But, what about the new Interceptor concepts? Are they fitting of a big screen debut? Let's find out!
These new Interceptors are not based on any existing Ford model. Rather, Ford built these beasts from the ground up, with Mad Max's universe in mind the whole time. That said, these models are everything that a true road warrior needs to dominate in a battle. They feature tazers, spiked wheels, and titanium body panels. These are not your every day vehicles by any means. Though, we wouldn't mind showing them off on our lot at 10650 North Michigan Road Zionsville, IN 46077 for a few days... Just don't ask us to take it for a test drive.
Ford Australia's Melbourne based Asia, Pacific and Australia Design Director, Chris Svensson says that the after-hours Mad Max project has been a great success. "It [the Ford Mad Max Interceptor concept project] has given our team a lot of scope to really extend their imaginations and come up with some exciting new ideas," 1 he says.
We can't wait to get more details on the film, and more importantly, we can't wait to see what vehicle Max races through the post-apocalyptic wasteland in. And, like all car enthusiasts, we'll have our eyes glued to the screen to see if Ford lands the big role!
That said, we will never EVER see a production model of either Interceptor concept. That, however, hasn't stopped us from feasting our eyes on them, and it shouldn't stop you either.
